Interreg Greater Region Project: Sustainable transformation processes for tourism in the Greater Region (TRAFO GR)

 The TRAFO GR project is an initiative within the framework of the Interreg Greater Region VI-A program aimed at sustainably transforming tourism in the Greater Region. The INTERREG program is funded by the “European Regional Development Fund” (ERDF). For more than 25 years, this framework for cross-border, transnational, and interregional cooperation in Europe has existed, which is again funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

Project Goal

The goal of the project is to sustainably transform tourism in the greater region. The focus is on adapting operational processes, developing new tourist products, and empowering tourism stakeholders to act sustainably. Through this transformation, competitive opportunities are to be utilized and the region positioned as an attractive, sustainable travel destination with offerings in nature, culture, and MICE.

Three Work Packages

To achieve this goal, the project focuses on three central work packages:

1) Market research determines how the metropolitan region is perceived as a sustainable and resilient travel destination. 

2) As part of the reframing, the tourism offerings are revised, new target groups are addressed, and contemporary communication strategies are developed. 

3) At the same time, networking plays a crucial role: Through targeted exchange of experiences, knowledge transfer, and collaboration among tourism stakeholders, synergies are created.
