Trekking Camps between Hunsrück & Nahe

The trekking camps in the Hunsrück-Nahe region offer nature-oriented overnight stays along the major hiking trails of the region. There is a distinction between camps in the Soonwald-Nahe Nature Park along the Soonwaldsteig and camps in the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park region.

In the Soonwald, the trekking camps Schmidtburg, Alteburg, Ellerspring, and Ochsenbaumer Höhe are located. These are ideal for hikers on the Soonwaldsteig.

In the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park region , the trekking camps Keltenlager, Drachenlager, and Wolfsheulen complement the overnight offerings, perfect for tours around the Saar-Hunsrück-Steig and the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park.

All sites are intentionally simply equipped and allow for an intense nature experience in the middle of the forest.

When are the trekking camps open?

The trekking camps are expected to be open annually from March 28 to November 1.
During the winter months, the sites are in a resting period.

How does the booking work?

Overnight stays in the trekking camps are only possible with prior online booking.
Bookings are usually released at the beginning of February each year.

How long in advance should I book?

We recommend booking your spot early, ideally at least one day before arrival.
For weekends, bookings should be made by Friday at 12:00 PM if possible, as demand is particularly high during this time.

Are last-minute bookings possible?

Yes, bookings on the day of arrival are possible during the following times:
Monday to Thursday: 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Friday: 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Who are the trekking camps suitable for?

The trekking camps are designed for anyone who wants to experience nature intensively and consciously, whether alone, as a couple, with family, or in a small hiking group.
They are particularly suitable for hikers on the Soonwaldsteig and in the national park, or for anyone looking for a simple overnight stay in the middle of nature.

What can I expect on site?

The camps are intentionally designed to be close to nature and simple, without classic comfort, but with plenty of peace, nature experiences, and a special atmosphere in the open air.

What should be considered when staying overnight?

Please be respectful towards nature, wildlife, and other guests.
Overnight stays are only allowed with a valid booking.
All trash must be taken back with you.
The principle applies: Leave nothing but footprints & take nothing but memories.

Am I allowed to make a fire in the trekking camp?

A small fire is part of the trekking experience for many – please handle it with particular responsibility.

Soonwald Trekking Camps:
Open fires are only allowed under certain conditions in the designated areas.
From a forest fire danger index of 3 or higher, any type of fire is prohibited, including gas stoves, lighters, and cigarettes.

National Park Hunsrück-Hochwald:
Here, a particularly strict protection applies: Fires are generally not allowed, regardless of the current forest fire danger.
