3x3 Salinental: VitalTour Ebernburg

From Ebernburg to the reservoir viewpoint through rustic forests and meadows, offering wide views...

The tour explores the picturesque wine village of Ebernburg with its typical inns, passes by a sculpture park with a view of the mighty rock face of the Rotenfels massif, immerses into dense forest areas, and offers a charming view of the Niederhausen reservoir. The landscape keeps changing. In dark forest passages, we pass by the Schinderhannesloch. Through meadows with wide horizons, we walk with a view into the Alsenztal and the Altenbaumburg, thus revealing the scenic richness of the Nahe region. The mighty Ebernburg is the starting and ending point of the hike.

Additional information

From the hiking portal, we reach the actual tour via a short side path. We turn sharply right at the fire station and walk to the castle village with its narrow alleys and cozy wine taverns. We ascend via stairs to the Ebernburg with its impressive panoramic view. From Ebernburg Bridge, the path leads us along a ridge first through vineyards, later through forest areas. We reach the Altenbaumburg view over an open high plateau. We continue walking through fields with distant views until we reach a shady valley path along a romantic orchard meadow. We follow the path, circle a farmstead, and enter the rustic Trombachtal. From the fork in the path, we first go gently, then steeply up a turning path to the Schinderhannesloch. After another short ascent, a longer stretch on forest paths awaits us. Finally, we reach a crossroads. From there, a side path leads to the magnificent reservoir view. Continuing along the hiking trail, we walk through the forest along old boundary stones. We reach the Kafelsblick before heading to Birkerhof on forest paths. From there, our path gradually descends along vineyards to the stone sculpture park. Here we can enjoy the grand view with the stone book tower and Rotenfels before meadow paths lead us back to the hiking portal.

It is advisable to bring drinks and snacks, as there are not many catering options outside of Bad Münster am Stein-Ebenrburg or from Birker Hof and the golf course. Some sections may be exposed to strong sunlight (plateau!).

In wet conditions, some sections along the Nahe near Norheim may be difficult to traverse.

Sturdy, water-resistant footwear.

Visit the exhibition at the castle, which highlights the significance of Ebernburg during the Reformation when Franz von Sickingen ruled here.
