Trekking Camp and Tent Camp Ruin Schmidtburg
Imposing ruins of Schmidtburg throne high above the romantic Hahnenbachtal. Breathe deeply, enjoy the silence, and linger.
The Schmidtburg ruin is the oldest castle complex in the Nahe and Hunsrück region. Its construction was originally for pure protection needs and dates back to the year 926. The castle was the ancestral seat of the counts in Nahegau and remained in wildgrave possession until the early 14th century. A walk through the extensive grounds makes one aware of its former size and significance. Camping on the castle grounds offers a view into the Hahnenbachtal, the silence, and nature.
Whether hiker or the whole family, everyone is welcome here who appreciates nature and culture and takes care of other people, plants, and animals.

Far from everyday life and hustle, one finds oneself here. Three tent areas, however, offer the opportunity to explore Schmidtburg and its surroundings with family or friends.

Zwinger: Once located in front of the ring wall for protection against enemies, the Zwinger is enclosed by the Zwinger wall. Here one finds a protected quarter with a magnificent view into the valley and towards the opposite Celtic settlement Altburg.
Chapel: Pause in the former chapel after the ascent to the castle, rest, and enjoy the silence. A place to escape the hectic everyday life and find oneself.
North Tower: From here one looks at the lower castle and becomes aware of the former significance and size of Schmidtburg. Surrounded by forest, one listens to the sounds of nature and forgets everyday life.
Burghof - tent site for groups: Here it was once lively, procuring goods for the castle. Today, the Burghof is a place for groups who embark together on the adventure of exploring nature. High above the Hahnenbachtal, old stories come to life here.
