Trekking Camps in the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park -
Camp “Celtic Camp”, in the western area of the national park near the ring wall at Otzenhausen
We love nature and advocate for more wilderness. We want to share this passion. For more sustainability, more nature and environmental protection. We believe there is nothing more romantic and liberating than sleeping under the open sky. That’s why we have our trekking camps in the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park; a camping opportunity for a very special nature experience. For nature lovers and hikers, for adventurers and romantics.
The national park trekking sites are located outside of towns, hidden in the forest, but are easily accessible via hiking trails. We have deliberately chosen these locations for a very special nature experience on one hand, but also to disturb nature and animals as little as possible.
Sleeping under the starry sky, listening to the sounds of the forest, being awakened by birds, and experiencing the sunrise in the great outdoors is what our trekking camps offer. A vacation in harmony with nature. Whether alone, as a couple, with family, or as a small hiking group; our trekking camps are the optimal place for wilderness and adventure – or for those who want to hike the Saar-Hunsrück Trail.
What’s stopping you? Camp booked, hiking boots laced, hiking map, tent, water, and provisions packed, and off you go.
The trekking camps are open from April 1 to October 31 and must be reserved and booked online in advance.
The Camps
In the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park, there are three trekking camps. Overnight stays in the wild nature of the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park are only allowed in these camps. The trekking camps are open from April 1 to October 31 and must be booked online in advance. The booking costs 15 euros per platform. Only one overnight stay is allowed per camp. The camps are located away from the towns, hidden in nature, and can only be reached on foot. Water and provisions must be brought by the trekkers themselves. Making fires is prohibited. Trash must be taken back with you.
All camps have:
· 2 platforms with seating
· each platform accommodates 2 small tents for 2 people or 1 larger tent for 4 people
· maximum occupancy of 2 groups of 4 people (max. 8 people total)
· a small toilet house/compost toilet
The Locations
The trekking camps are located between Kempfeld and Otzenhausen and can be connected during a hike. Arrival and departure are conveniently possible via the train stations Idar-Oberstein and Türkismühle. However, the trails and camps are not signposted – anyone wishing to stay overnight must book a spot in advance via an online platform. The hiker will then receive a booking confirmation and directions for the “last mile,” i.e., access to the respective camp, via email. The route of the tour can also be downloaded here. Well-equipped with a hiking map, GPS device, tent, sleeping bag, sufficient water, and provisions, nothing stands in the way of the adventure “National Park up close.”
