1,100 Years of Schmidtburg

Knight, Jester and 1,100 Years of History:
The Schmidtburg invites you to the grand anniversary celebration of 1,100 Years of Schmidtburg

Ever wanted to be a knight, shoot arrows at a target, transform into a mythical creature, and listen to real castle stories? All of this will be available on September 26 and 27, 2026, at the ruins of Schmidtburg (Schneppenbach), during the celebration of the 1,100th anniversary of Schmidtburg.

For two days, from 10 AM to 4 PM, the castle will be the venue for a colorful family festival, where history can not only be told but experienced. There will be plenty happening at the castle: a jester will provide entertainment, and medieval activities will bring long-gone times back to life, with something to discover everywhere. Visitors can look forward to a special atmosphere where they can escape everyday life for a few hours and dive into the world of the Middle Ages.

For young castle visitors, there is much to experience
Especially the youngest visitors will have a great time. They can prove their skills in various games. In archery, they can find out if a real knight or a brave castle defender is within them, and during face painting, the little guests can transform into knights, maidens, dragons, mythical creatures, or other fantastic figures as they wish.

1100 Years of History to Discover
Of course, with such an anniversary, history is also at the center of attention. During the castle tours, visitors will gain exciting insights into the castle's past and learn more about the people, events, and stories connected to its ancient walls.

And for those who need a refreshment after so many adventures, there is no need to look far:
Food and drinks are, of course, provided. This way, the visit can be turned into a relaxed and varied family day.

The journey is the destination - even the trip to Schmidtburg is part of the experience this weekend. After driving to the designated parking areas, a shuttle bus will take visitors to the hiking parking lot. From there, it is about 1.5 kilometers on foot through nature to the castle. Therefore, sturdy footwear and some time for the journey should be planned.

Whether a fan of the Middle Ages, a curious explorer, a little knight, a big history enthusiast, or friends and family: there is something for everyone to experience at Schmidtburg on these two days.
