Cycling on the Trails of the Red Gold

After a tour of the historic copper mine Fischbach, you will follow the trails of the Red Gold by bicycle over the sun-drenched high plateaus of the EdelSteinLand. Historic villages and breathtaking views will make your heart race.
First, the path leads us from the copper mine - essentially on the work route of the miners - to Fischbach to the former "Bergfreiheit". There, small historical miners' houses in Brudergasse still testify to the harsh life of the miners.
Then we ascend steeply to the Herrengefäll with its wide view over the Nahe Valley. In good weather, you can even see the tower of the National Park Gate Wildenburg.
The path leads you initially past the ruins of the former miners' village of Staufenberg and then to the cozy picture-book village of Berschweiler, the home village of your tour guide. Your knowledgeable guide has many anecdotes from the history and present of the region to share. For example, you will learn about a "wild woman" who is said to have lived in a copper mine and about merciless lords who valued copper wealth more than the well-being of their subjects.
We will stay on the high plateau during our further journey. Enjoy the stunning landscape views: the seemingly endless expanse of the high plateau, the magnificent views over the nature-rich Hahnenbachtal, and the sight of the wooded mountains of the Lützelsoon.
Then we descend into the half-timbered village of Herrstein with its old castle, where once the mining overseers of the Herrstein-Fischbach mining district resided, and to Niederwörresbach, which was home to many miners until the Thirty Years' War.
Over a hill, we return to the idyllic Hosenbachtal. Now, lovely floodplain meadows and light forests accompany our return to the starting point at the copper mine.
In the Fischbach copper hut, we can admire the sophistication of medieval technology, and afterwards, the Cafe Kupferstube next door is just right for a cozy conclusion to a charming cycling tour on the trails of the Red Gold.

The partly hilly tour is quite sporty and only suitable for e-bikes. It largely follows the route of the so-called "Panorama Tour on the Sun Plateau". The event takes place regardless of the weather. Please remember to wear appropriate clothing.
