Herman Melville's epic novel tells the famous story of the enormous white whale Moby Dick and his vengeful hunter Captain Ahab. Since an earlier encounter with the creature, Ahab has been obsessed with the thought of tracking down and destroying the whale. Driven by blind hatred, he gathers the crew of the 'Pequod' around him and leads them further out to sea – into the battle with the forces of nature and into a hunt that increasingly loses all reasonable measure. In the process, the adventurous journey also becomes a search for meaning and orientation. What do we live for? What drives us? And what happens when a single person places their obsession over the life of an entire community? Melville combines the tension of a great sea story with poetic language and philosophical depth. The ensemble Persona brings the classic to the stage with clear playing style and special linguistic power. Sounds, sound effects, percussion, accordion, and shadow play create vivid images and make the sea, the storm, and the growing threat immediately palpable.
