Lady Mildred is expecting guests at her equally aged English country estate. It is to be an illustrious gathering, after all, her old honorable friend Colonel Craddock along with his wife Margaret and the French art dealer Pierre with Elizabeth, the beautiful elegant lady of the world, are coming. Mildred's niece Dorothy, who takes care of her aunt at the estate, is less than thrilled, not least because the only staff left for the two ladies is the more than stubborn servant Bunting. To top it all off, the curious neighbor Joan Maple also invites herself. Hardly have the visitors gathered and the first tensions arise, when suddenly a deadly shot is fired and Mildred will not witness the end of her party.
One thing is clear: She knew her murderer...
This clever crime comedy comes across like a typical Agatha Christie mystery. Peter Gordon clearly reveals his source and plays with it in a very cheerful manner. At the same time, he delivers a tricky case with more than one surprising twist, wonderfully quirky characters, beautiful wordplay, and a lot of winks.
