Special exhibition at the German Gem Museum:
Light, Stone and Vision
In memory of Bernd and Tom Munsteiner
Bernd and Tom Munsteiner are among the most significant figures in international gemstone art and are closely connected to Idar-Oberstein.
They introduced new artistic impulses in gemstone processing with their innovative works and shaped the international perception of avant-garde stone art.
Bernd Munsteiner revolutionized gemstone processing by breaking the traditional faceting and redefining gemstones as a means of artistic expression.
He focused on the natural structure and inner development of the stone and opened up the view into the interior of transparent stones with newly developed cuts. The crystal became a space where light, depth, and structure become tangible.
Tom Munsteiner continued this extraordinary legacy with his own contemporary signature. He combined the highest craftsmanship precision with modern forms and innovative cutting concepts.
Geometric elements such as prisms, circles, or precisely placed cuts meet soft organic lines, giving his works a special tension. They simultaneously remind of architectural constructions and of natural forms.
Today, the studio in Stipshausen is continued by Jutta Munsteiner together with her son Philipp. In the connection of tradition and personal development, the artistic attitude of the family lives on: the gemstone as an expression of identity, time, and inner movement.
