The Puricelli. Traces of entrepreneurs, builders, and benefactors in the region Hunsrück-Nahe - Lecture by Dr. habil. Bernd Carqué
The era of the Puricelli at the Rheinböllerhütte in the Guldenbachtal from 1791 to 1962 has left its mark on the Hunsrück-Nahe region: forested areas, open-pit mines, and water reservoirs are still recognizable in the landscape today. Industrial buildings and
estates, villas, castles, and chapels shape the townscape of numerous communities and have made a significant contribution to the cultural heritage of the region.
The lecture highlights central aspects of the mining industrial success story, which once made the Puricelli one of the largest employers and benefactors in the region, with extensive visual material. It shows what conditions the family, which immigrated from Northern Italy, found in the Soonwald and what innovative entrepreneurial activities they developed. Furthermore, it presents the diverse monumental traces that the Puricelli left behind with their active construction activities and a far-reaching social and ecclesiastical foundation system.
About the speaker:
Dr. habil. Bernd Carqué is an art historian and teaches as a private lecturer at the universities of Heidelberg and Kaiserslautern-Landau. In addition, he leads projects for the preservation and communication of cultural heritage.
