A concert format for the Rheinhessen region: On its chapel tour, the Vocalconsort Mainz regularly brings a cappella music to the small chapels of the area. Intimate, moderated programs featuring music from the Baroque to the present invite musical experiences and encounters.
---------
Since its founding in 2017, the Vocalconsort Mainz has developed into a highly active ensemble in the Rhine-Main area. In its own concert series, such as the Wandelkonzert in the cloister of St. Stephan in Mainz, the chapel tour through Rheinhessen, or by invitation to the churches,
halls, and theaters of the region, such as at the Baroque Festival Darmstadt in 2023, it shines with a diverse a cappella program.
The music of the Renaissance and Baroque is the common starting point for the singers, but their repertoire now also includes many modern works. The versatility and openness of the sextet are demonstrated through collaborations, including with tanzmainz (“small places” in Kloster Eberbach), with the art history department of Goethe University Frankfurt, or the Dommuseum Frankfurt.
The ensemble works and rehearses without a fixed leadership, in a grassroots democratic and self-organized manner. It receives important artistic impulses in courses and workshops, including with Charles Toet, Wim Becu, Erik Grevenbrock-Reinhardt, and Markus Zapp, as well as with renowned ensembles like Singer Pur or Voces8. In 2023, the Mainz composer Julian Mörth dedicated the work “Hope is the thing with feathers” to the Vocalconsort Mainz.
