04. From Mill to Mill in the Baybach Valley Niederter Mill

The Niederter Mill located between Schloss Reifenthal and Thörlingen on the Baybach. It is...

 The Niederter Mill
We don't walk long before we see the next mill in front of us. It is the former Niederter Mill, which a nature-loving family has transformed into a place of relaxation with much diligence and effort. The Niederter Mill was a so-called 'Pfalzgräfliche Bannmühle', which meant that the Pfalzgraf, as the owner, leased the mill to local millers who had to pay an annual rent for it. However, they enjoyed the privilege of being allowed to grind for the farmers of certain villages. As early as 1630, a Hans Neuneyer is mentioned in the records as the tenant of the mill. The mill was sold in the 1970s and extensively renovated. It is now privately owned.

Excerpt from the book 'From Mill to Mill', a hike through the Baybach Valley, available for 9.00 euros at the Tourist Information Emmelshausen.
