The Layenmühle
Not far from the Niederter Mühle stands the Layenmühle, which was built in 1689 by Count von der Layen and also leased as a bann mill. It was probably a count from the same family who built the aforementioned Schlossmühle in Reifenthal. The last miller's family, the Beckers, ceased milling operations in 1928.
In this mill, the notorious bandit Schinderhannes is said to have found refuge once while fleeing from his pursuers. According to oral tradition, Schinderhannes often hid in the lonely mills of the Baybach Valley, and we will encounter more traces of him.
