Saint James in Liesenfeld is depicted as a pilgrim. This representation has only existed since the bones of the saint have been venerated in Santiago de Compostela, attracting true streams of pilgrims. But more on that later. The calling of James and the other first disciples is told in three of the four Gospels. In Matthew it says: "From that time on, Jesus began to preach: Repent! For the kingdom of heaven is near. As Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew; they were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 'Come, follow me,' Jesus said, 'and I will make you fishers of men.' At once they left their nets and followed him. Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John; they were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him." Mt 4:17-22 Impulse: Becoming fishers of men. Jesus sees people and recognizes their abilities. He calls them to follow him, and they use their abilities for the kingdom of God. Questions: What abilities do I have? What am I good at? Can I use one (or more) of my abilities for Jesus? What can I do concretely so that people can feel something of God's love? That they can sense that there is a God who means well with them? Do I want to do that?
