19. From Mill to Mill in the Baybachtal Heyweiler Farm Mill

 The Heyweiler Farmers' Mill
Another weir and the ditch of a mill dyke announce to us yet another mill. And so we soon arrive at the Heyweiler Farmers' Mill, where the members of the cooperative from the village on the hill have ground their own grain. In this mill, there was a serious accident in 1933, as reported by the Bopparder Zeitung on July 11 of that year:
"A serious accident occurred on Sunday in the cooperative mill located in the Baybach Valley, in which the farmer Friedrich Wetzlar from Heyweiler fell victim. While changing the drive belts, he was caught by the cogwheels, which crushed his chest, resulting in immediate death."
We find the former mill building in a well-preserved condition, but the closed shutters suggest that it is not constantly inhabited. The open fireplace in front of the house and the large amounts of neatly stacked firewood reveal the recreational use of the property.

Then the "alpine part" of our Baybach trail slowly comes to an end. The rugged rocks become fewer, and the wooded slopes become gentler. We are still very much under the impression of this wildly rugged valley gorge, which is very worth seeing. However, it must also be clearly stated that this part of the Bay is not accessible to everyone. As much as one would like all hikers to experience this magnificent natural experience, those who are not sure-footed or suffer from vertigo should avoid this area of the valley. Although the narrow footpath is somewhat secured by hand ropes in some particularly difficult spots, there are still numerous dangerous places to overcome.
