The route is led by the mayor and starts at the parking lot of the small animal breeding. The first part of the tour deals with the castle mill and the old slate quarries of Gemünden. The second part leads through the geological educational trail, which borders the barbecue hut. Along the edge of the educational trail, there are rock blocks that provide insight into the geological development of the Hunsrück over a period of about 400 years. Each stone is labeled with its type and location.
