5. Liesenfelder Jakobusweg / Burial Mounds

The hiking map of Emmelshausen and its surroundings marks burial mounds. These likely date back to the Iron Age. Although there are no indications of settlement from this time in the area of Emmelshausen; the remnants of settlements are usually inconspicuous (a layer of ash, fragments of vessels, or burnt clay remains that suggest dwellings), the contemporary cemeteries appear distinctly in the form of burial mound fields - also in the vicinity of Emmelshausen - for example, 'Im Scheid', meaning here at this location, but also north of Emmelshausen, west of Liesenfeld, south of the road to Gondershausen. This type of archaeological monument, which has predominantly survived in forested areas, consists of groups of burial mounds of varying sizes. They have a recognizable diameter of 12-15 meters and a height of about one meter. Typically, the mounds cover individual burials. The Garden of Gethsemane is the site of the next event. Jesus celebrated the Last Supper with the disciples and now withdraws to pray. He takes his closest confidants with him and asks them to stay awake and support him. They came to a property called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples: Sit here while I pray! And he took Peter, James, and John along with him. Then he was seized with fear and anxiety and said to them: My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch! Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that, if possible, the hour might pass from him. He said: Abba, Father, everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me! Yet not what I will, but what you will. Returning to his disciples, he found them sleeping. 'Simon,' he said to Peter, 'are you asleep? Couldn’t you keep watch for one hour?' Mk 14:32-37 Jesus asks the disciples two more times to stay awake and pray. Twice he returns to them and finds them sleeping. Then soldiers come and arrest him. Impulse It was late at night, after an extensive meal and several cups of wine that were consumed. It was hard to stay awake. Was it even possible? As friends, they must have tried very hard and wanted the best. Nevertheless, the disciples disappointed Jesus. Questions Do I know this experience? If so, from which side? As a person asking for a favor from a friend and feeling disappointed? Or as someone who has disappointed another person, for whatever reason? How do I deal with the respective situation? The next impulse is at the cross by the wayside.
