In the Forstelbach Valley, which stretches from the heights near Hermeskeil along the Forstelbach to Nonnweiler, the beaver has settled with its family. It has dammed the Forstelbach in many small terraces and built impressive beaver lodges, its home.
The beaver's habitat consists of flowing waters, such as the Forstelbach, or standing waters, like the ponds found there. Due to its body structure, life in and around water is excellent for it. Here, it finds not only materials for its dwelling but also plenty of food.
The Hochwald Forestry Office has set up information boards along the Beaver Trail about the life of the beaver. Here, hikers can inform themselves.
Halfway along the trail, there is an opportunity to rest in a rest hut before the path ascends back to Hermeskeil.
