Bridges Houses, Old Nahe Bridge, Neustadt

The bridge houses in the center of Bad Kreuznach are the landmark of the spa town on the Nahe. They...

The Old Nahe Bridge was built around 1300 as a large pillar bridge with eight arches. It spanned the main arm of the Nahe River and the mill pond. It was part of the city wall. The bridge houses are half-timbered buildings constructed between 1500 and 1600 and are integrated into the bridge pillars. This is a very rare form of bridge architecture. The bridge houses, the adjacent Pauluskirche, and the mill pond form a unique ensemble that is among the most popular photographic motifs in the country. The double bridge connects the two districts of Historic Neustadt and Old Town, which shaped the medieval city.
