Castle "Gollenfels"

The "Gollenfels" is first mentioned as "Gülden-Fels, which is located above the Güldenloch" in a contract dated April 5, 1191, between the Diocese of Mainz and the Monastery of Ravengiersburg regarding properties in Dalberg. This prominent elevation served as a landmark, also in later deeds and documents. This site was strategically used "apparently to cover the crossing of the Roman road." In 1614, it was destroyed by Spanish troops and rebuilt in 1619. The late medieval interior structure was largely preserved. On the castle grounds, there is a monument to Lieutenant von Gauvain, who lost his life there in the fight against Napoleon's troops.
