Grimburg Castle was built around 1190 as a state castle for the Archbishops of Trier. It was formerly the administrative seat for almost 40 municipalities in the Hochwald region. The granting of city rights took place in the 14th century.
In 1522, the castle was captured by Franz von Sickingen. Later, witch trials took place at Grimburg. In 1978, it was awakened from its slumber and partially rebuilt in the following years.
Thanks to the intensive efforts of the support association, it is now possible to present visitors with a rough image of a medieval castle complex. A visit is possible year-round.
