Funeral chapel from the year 1857
The crypt chapel in Rheinböllen is the historical burial site of the prominent entrepreneurial family Puricelli. The original rubble stone hall was built in 1857 and expanded in 1906 according to plans by architect Eduard Endler. It is protected as a cultural monument. The chapel features neo-Romanesque and historicist forms made of rubble stone. In 1906, an expansion was made with a triconchos (three-part annex) and a crossing tower. In spring 1945, the building suffered severe damage from a low-flying attack near the nearby train stop, but was restored to a similar form by 1947. The Puricelli family shaped the ironworks industry and social life in the region around the Rheinböllerhütte for generations. The chapel can only be viewed from the outside. It is only accessible upon request for special occasions.
