DREAM LOOP Ruwer-Hochwald Loop

A wonderful 12.8 km long hiking trail that balanced and varied showcases the beautiful natural landscape of the Hochwald. The path repeatedly alternates between forest and meadows. Wide views with panoramic vistas, bizarre rock formations of the quartzite cliffs, and the gurgling Ruwer, which is crossed twice, make this tour a great hiking experience. Special attention deserves the natural monument Heckelbuschfelsen in the Schillinger Forest. The formation history of the landscape-shaping quartzite cliffs in the Hochwald dates back over 300 million years to the Carboniferous period. The great hardness of this rock made of silica makes the quartzite resistant to weathering influences. The surrounding slate layers have been eroded much faster, resulting in bizarre and impressive rock formations.
