Erbeskopf

The Erbeskopf is located in the Verbandsgemeinde Thalfang am Erbeskopf and belongs to the local community of Hilscheid.
At its summit stands the walkable sculpture "Windklang" by sculptor Christoph Mancke, which serves as a viewing platform. It impressively showcases the interplay of nature and the elements. Built like a large wooden harp, its core is made of tons of steel. From its platform, one can enjoy stunning views over the Hunsrück landscape and the Moselle Valley extending deep into the Eifel region.
Located on both the 10th stage of the premium long-distance hiking trail Saar-Hunsrück-Steig and the dream loop Gipfelrauschen, the Erbeskopf is a rewarding destination for hikers. The dream loop leads along narrow forest paths and short forest trails from the highest elevation into the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park. Thus, on the nearly eight-kilometer circular tour, one experiences the full spectrum of natural features of this nature reserve.
In addition to the varied hiking trails and the viewing platform, the Erbeskopf recreation area offers an adventure area with a forest playground, a 1,345-meter-long summer toboggan run from spring to autumn, a forest rope park with five courses of varying difficulty levels and a Flying Fox course, a trail park for mountain bikers with five different trails, as well as the National Park Gate Erbeskopf with the interactive exhibition "Welcome to the Forest of Tomorrow".
Even in winter, many are drawn to the highest mountain in Rhineland-Palatinate. At the Erbeskopf winter sports center, alpine skiing is possible on up to three downhill slopes. A fully automated snow-making system additionally produces enough snow for the slopes at low temperatures. When enough snow has fallen, cross-country ski trails can also be groomed. Ski and snowboard rentals, a ski and snowboard school, as well as gastronomy are also available on-site.
