Erzkapellchen Hermeskeil

Chapel on the Erzberg with a view over the Hochwald town of Hermeskeil

According to the parish chronicle, the merchant Johann Marx from Hermeskeil built the small chapel in 1865. According to oral tradition, the baroque Madonna statue that was placed there is said to originate from the chapel that used to stand on the Lascheider Hof, which was demolished around 1850.

In 1925, a first thorough renovation was carried out.

As a lasting memory of the Marian Year 1954, the chapel was replaced in 1955 by a new, larger, and more beautiful building.

The old Madonna statue found a place in the Marian altar of the parish church. The sculptor Matthias Müller from Hermeskeil carved a new Madonna statue for the Erzberg Chapel.
