Evangelical Parsonage "Blücherhaus"

The oldest building in the city (besides the Protestant parish church) dates back in parts to the 17th century. On January 2, 1814, prominent guests included Prince Wilhelm of Prussia, Field Marshal Gebhard von Blücher, and Major General von Clausewitz: They followed the allied troops up to the Hunsrück heights after the legendary crossing of the Rhine at Kaub on New Year's Eve to drive out Napoleon's armies. Thus, the foundation was laid to free the peoples of the West from the Corsican yoke in the decisive Battle of Waterloo and to lead Europe to a new order. General Marshal von Blücher owed his popular nickname 'Marshal Forward' to his offensive command of troops. This marked the end of a two-decade intermezzo of French occupation in our homeland.
