Gallery in the Town Hall A town hall as a gallery? Yes, it is so…! Over 150 paintings by renowned European artists are displayed in the offices and hallways of the venerable building. From Finland in the north to Spain and Tunisia in the south, as well as Great Britain in the west and Russia in the east - the artists have found a 'home' in Kirn and delight locals and tourists with their works. The idea of bringing art into connection with an administrative building was initially controversial. However, the philosophy of actively bringing art closer to people supported the project, and thus every visitor to the town hall comes into contact with the paintings, is addressed and educated through eye contact in all their artistic sensitivities. The Karlheinz Brust exhibition, which also includes lyrical works by Margot Brust, changes its face every few months. Karlheinz Brust, the local artist, presents at least 50 new paintings to the public each year. How could this be better achieved than with a permanent exhibition in the town hall, where citizens and artists come together, where art can be viewed, discussed, accepted, or rejected by people directly and without barriers - even when citizens are only visiting the town hall to apply for a new passport or a building permit. The city of Kirn consciously takes an unusual path, makes art tangible, and has created a unique selling point through the gallery in the town hall, which is of course also attractive to art-interested guests from outside and makes a visit to the baroque Kirn town hall worthwhile.
