Embark on a journey of discovery through historic Herrstein
"Pax intrantibus" – "Peace to those who enter" is inscribed above the door of one of the historic townhouses.
Today, the historic town center of Herrstein invites you for a stroll into the past. Once, the medieval city gate with the current clock tower was the only access to the elaborately restored market square with richly decorated half-timbered houses from the 15th to 18th centuries. Even today, parts of the city wall testify to the protective needs of former residents. An ensemble of 60 old townhouses is grouped around the town hall square at the foot of the castle and church. The ascent to the castle church and the battlements, which connects the bell tower and the Schinderhannes tower, passes by the "Heresteyn" – a rock outcrop that gave Herrstein its name.
In the historic castle church, you can discover picture panels by an unknown master and an organ from the famous organ-building family Stumm. Through winding alleys, you reach picturesque squares with bubbling fountains. What you see in Herrstein is the living Middle Ages. You will learn even more from our tour guides, who will take you into the secrets of the place and the region. Let yourself be enchanted by a long-gone era. Welcome to Herrstein!
