Historical Oil Mill
In 1997, it was acquired by the municipality of Morbach and, under the leadership of former village mayor Hans Jung, was restored with great dedication and attention to detail to its current state. The water wheel, which drives the millstones through the wooden grinding mechanism, was reconstructed according to the original plans from 1923. The historical oil mill consists of a barn, stables, and the mill itself and has been a protected monument since 1982.
In the mill, you can request a demonstration of how cold-pressed rapeseed oil is produced. An old “Backes” (a stone oven integrated into the building) is even available for groups and school classes to bake bread, rolls, pizza, etc. The barn, equipped with old agricultural tools, can be rented for celebrations.
The buildings of the old mills are only open upon request - nevertheless, the mill is very popular among hikers for a rest stop. The dream loop Oil Mill Tour starts at this idyllic location. Additionally, the route of the premium hiking trail Saar-Hunsrück-Steig is only 700 m away from the oil mill.
The annual mill festival has become an integral part of Morbach's cultural life and attracts many guests from near and far. During this festival, guided tours are offered in the historical mill, and oil is pressed. The old stone oven provides the crumb cake for afternoon coffee.
Dogs are allowed in the oil mill on a leash.
