Idarkopf Tower Stipshausen

The Idarkopf Tower is the new scenic highlight of the National Park Association community of Herrstein-Rhaunen in the EdelSteinLand. From the platform of the over 31 m high observation tower, visitors can expect breathtaking views of the entire region.

With the construction of the tower, an intelligent hybrid structure made of wood and hot-dip galvanized steel was implemented. The main load-bearing structure consists of three conically tapered glued laminated timber supports made of spruce wood. The new building, with a height of 31.1 m, is expected to have a lifespan of 80 to 100 years. The steel staircase with its 170 steps offers 9 resting platforms leading up to the observation deck. The observation platform resembles a bird's nest.

This magnificent viewpoint invites you to discover the National Park Association community of Herrstein-Rhaunen and the beautiful Hunsrück low mountain range landscape from a different perspective.

Located in the midst of nature, it is not accessible by car!

The Idarkopf Tower is accessible by public transport. The National Park bus, line 890, runs several times a day (including on Sundays and public holidays) to the stop “Bikepark Idarkopf, Stipshausen.” From there, the new observation tower can be reached by a nearly 2-kilometer hike through the Idar Forest.
