Cultural Shore Bingen

Riverside promenade at the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley with a view of the famous Mouse Tower. Start of the...

North of the Bingen city center, where the Klopp Castle towers above, lies the banks of the Rhine, which were transformed into the vibrant blooming "Cultural Shore" as part of the State Garden Show 2008. The walker on the 3 km long promenade is accompanied by a lush sea of flowers on one side and breathtaking views on the other. From the eastern end to the Rhine-Nahe corner, there is a magnificent view of the vineyards of the Rheingau with the mighty Germania of the Niederwald Monument near Rüdesheim. The boat docks are the starting point for boat trips to the world-famous Loreley. Further west, the path passes the former power station of the city. The listed building from 1898 now houses the Historical Museum am Strom. The exhibits make the history of the city of Bingen and the times of Rhine Romanticism tangible. Above all, the museum is dedicated to Saint Hildegard of Bingen. At the confluence of the Rhine and Nahe lies the park at the Mouse Tower, a single invitation to picnic on the green meadow. Trees provide ample shade and colorful flower beds exude wonderful fragrances. Natural banks are retreat areas for endangered animal and plant species. A skate park, beach volleyball and basketball courts, and a water playground are popular destinations and meeting points, especially during vacation times. In the neighborhood stands the landmark and namesake of the idyllic setting on its own island: the Bingen Mouse Tower. It marks the entrance of the Rhine into the narrow, rocky UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley.
