The Kunibert Round, named after the parish patron Bishop Kunibert, extends over a picturesque 8.7 km circular path that leads from the parking lot at St. Kunibert Church through the charming district of Haag. Along the way, numerous information boards provide exciting insights into the local cultural monuments. These include, among others, the cemetery cross, the Kunibert relief, and the historic bakery "Backes."
In addition to the historical aspects, the hike along a high path above Haag offers a breathtaking view of the highest elevation in Rhineland-Palatinate, the 816 m high Erbeskopf, as well as the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park. After this impressive panorama, the path leads through idyllic forests, past blooming meadows and babbling brooks. The quarry, the Lohwald, and a distinctive rock formation with ancient beech and oak stands further enrich the hiking experience.
A special stop along the route is the Herrenwiese, a picturesque floodplain between Kesselberg and Bocksberg, which offers inviting resting opportunities. The name "Herrenwiese" recalls the Herrenland of the lords of Hunolstein. This valley was once part of the immediate castle area of Hunolstein, whose lands were entrusted to the electoral steward for cultivation.
NEW: "Häja Wiesn Schänke"
Since May 2025, the resting place at Herrenwiese has been enriched by the Gourmet Station "Häja Wiesn Schänke". Hikers will find two well-stocked refrigerators at the station: one with non-alcoholic beverages such as sparkling water and apple spritzer from Hochwald Sprudel, as well as non-alcoholic beer from KIRNER Privatbrauerei. Small snacks like salami and other treats are also offered. The second refrigerator is stocked with alcoholic beverages such as various beers from KIRNER, wine, and sparkling wine.
Please note: At the Gourmet Station, you must identify yourself with an ID card or driver's license using a so-called "age verification reader." After that, alcoholic beverages can be purchased. Payment for all drinks and snacks is based on trust. On-site payment with coins is possible; alternatively, payment can also be made via PayPal or bank transfer.
The Gourmet Station is managed by the Heimatverein Haag 1992 e. V. and is available to hikers daily from Easter to the end of October.
