Late Gothic Town Hall Meisenheim

The town hall was built around 1508 by master builder and stonemason Philipp von Gmünd. The hall on the ground floor was used as a fruit market hall and served for the storage of citizens' weapons, fire hooks, ladders, and leather buckets. The council chamber was located on the upper floor, where a tavern already existed in 1528/29. The beautiful Renaissance portal leads inside to a spiral staircase, which was installed around 1580. In 1611, the building received a roof rider, from where fire alarms were presumably given. An additional extension took place in 1934 in Rathausgasse. Finally, it was remodeled to its current structure from 1991 to 1994. Today, it is used for municipal purposes (meeting room, mayor's office) and serves as a senior day care center and city library.
