Mariengrotte

The Mariengrotte is located in the forest at the edge of Leitzweiler. A Marian statue is erected there....

The Mariengrotte is essentially the landmark of Leitzweiler. It was consecrated in 1928 and thus celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2003. A resident of Leitzweiler is said to have once made a pilgrimage to Lourdes, which initiated the construction of a Mariengrotte. Previously, there was a Marian image a few hundred meters from Leitzweiler in the so-called 'Wäldchen' between Leitzweiler and Weiersbach, to which the people of Leitzweiler prayed. Allegedly, a miracle is said to have occurred at this location. Under the Marian statue, there is a memorial plaque for the fallen soldiers of Leitzweiler from both World Wars. Saint Bernadette is depicted kneeling in prayer to Mary. Many signs bearing the inscription 'Maria has helped' testify that the prayers of many believers have been heard.
