The small mill is located a few hundred meters before the entrance to Niederkumbd coming from the direction of Simmern. It was built in 1848 and operated as a cooperative mill until its sale to the municipality of Niederkumbd in 1952.
In 1969, the operation was finally discontinued, as hardly any flour was being milled - until then, grain was still being ground (less finely milled, for animal feed). For almost 30 years, the mill fell into oblivion until, in 1995, as part of the broadcast series "Macht mit" by Südwestfunk, a week-long renovation project initiated by the villagers began. Another two years passed before the heart of the mill, the grinding mechanism, was functional again.
Particularly, the reconstruction of the mill wheel, which had rusted and rotted over time, was a challenging task. More than 1,500 screws now give the construction made of galvanized iron and solid oak new stability. After the mill ditch was also opened, the water-powered mill wheel was set in motion again for the first time in 1997. Since then, the mill in Niederkumbd has been the only one in the association municipality with a functional grinding mechanism.
By arrangement, the mill is opened and set in motion for groups.
