NABU Center Rheinauen Bingen

Directly opposite the train stop in Bingen-Gaulsheim lies the innovative wooden building in the midst of the nature experience area AuenLand. The center serves as the base for the diverse work of full-time and volunteer nature conservationists. Here, there are suggestions for becoming active in nature conservation: at home or in the numerous projects with NABU!


Nature conservation at home
Wild herb areas, greening of parking lots, and nature-friendly green roofs are just a few examples of how to bring more nature into your living environment at home. Those who want to help birds not only provide nesting opportunities but also create suitable food sources through wild shrubs, native trees, or 'wild corners'. Butterflies and wild bees are attracted through plantings or food plants. The positive examples in and around the NABU Center Rheinauen provide inspiration on how everyone can become active for more environmental protection and nature at home.


Oases for animals and plants
In total, NABU Bingen and the surrounding area manages 60 hectares of its own nature conservation areas within its catchment area. Rare orchids grow on the dry grasslands, which are regularly maintained. In the Rhine meadows, small bodies of water alternate with wet meadows where rare plants grow, providing habitat for the tree frog and others. Wetlands such as Mortkaute, the breeding meadow, or Schwabenheimer reeds are oases for waterfowl and reed breeders like the marsh harrier.


Meeting point nature
The NABU Center Rheinauen is intended to be a meeting point for people who are committed to nature conservation. Exhibitions, lectures, and workshops on specific topics address various target groups. On weekends, the Café AuenBlick invites visitors to explore the center and the adjacent AuenLand with homemade cakes. Here, numerous insects, amphibians, wild plants, and, with a bit of luck, bird species such as the kingfisher or the white stork can be observed.
