The National Park Gate is evolving – a new concept for the wildlife enclosure and the National Park Gate is being implemented.
The operation of the wildlife enclosure at Wildenburg was temporarily taken over by the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park Authority at the beginning of 2024. Until the end of 2023, the Hunsrück Association managed the enclosure.
The National Park Authority, together with regional stakeholders and experts, has developed a concept to create an attractive National Park Gate. The following renovation works are planned:
- New quarters for animals and people: All animal quarters will be renewed. This means that the stables will be rebuilt, and the feeding areas and hay racks will also be renewed. The total of 16 km of enclosure fences will also need to be repaired.
- Lots of space for eating and lingering: A new gastro area with an indoor space, a large terrace, and shady seating areas for at least 150 guests will be created in the spring. This area is intended to invite people to eat and linger, whether visiting the wildlife enclosure or not.
- New play and picnic areas: A new large playground will be built, partly with barrier-free play equipment.
- Barrier-free paths: The barrier-free paths will be improved for wheelchair users, people with mobility impairments, and families with strollers.
- Educational and recreational offerings: Places for National Park experience programs, family celebrations, and children's birthdays will be created.
