Oil Mill Schweppenhausen

Schweppenhausen is located about 15 kilometers north of Bad Kreuznach and 11 kilometers southeast of Bingen in the lower Guldenbach Valley. The Guldenbach is a highly flowing watercourse - favorable conditions for mill operation. Even in the 19th century, there were more than 40 mills in the Guldenbach Valley from the source to the mouth, including eight in the small district of Schweppenhausen. One of them is a former oil mill, which was on the verge of falling into disrepair in the 1970s. Heinrich Zimmermann bought it, invested a lot of time and money, and restored the mill and residential building after years. Today, visitors can view the waterwheel and millstone, as well as tour the estate and rent the adjacent restored rooms.
