Old Lime Kiln at Weinberger Hof in Stromberg

Starting from the extraction of burnt lime, the term "lime works" in the context of Stromberg almost always includes a quarry in immediate spatial connection with a lime kiln. The first and for many centuries the only such extraction sites are likely to be found in the Dörrebachtal at Weinberger Hof. The rise and fall of many older lime kilns is often no longer precisely ascertainable in terms of space and time. The limestone quarries and lime kilns were originally exclusively owned by nobility or municipalities.
