Lütz is a picturesque small village that nestles idyllically in the depression of the Lützbaches, surrounded by vast forests, meadows, and floodplains. The charm of the place is significantly shaped by the historical buildings, which are not limited to the village center with the rectory, church, and town hall. The oldest building in Lütz is the hunting lodge of the Lords of Eltz from the year 1541. The community has about 350 inhabitants and is located approximately 3 km from the Moselle in a beautiful side valley of the Hunsrück. Slate mining in Lütz used to play a significant role. Since 2005, there has been the Slate Quarry Hiking Trail. It leads along a 7 km circular route past the old slate tunnels, where many men from Lütz tried to wrestle the black gold of slate from the mountain through hard labor from the mid-19th century until 1953.
