Parish Church "Cross Finding"

The old church stood on the current cemetery and was demolished in 1895.
It was built or renovated in 1568 by the bailiff of Stromberg, Hans Valentin von Schonenberg, according to the coat of arms above the door frame. “It was a simple hall building with a three-sided closure and a multi-recessed bell tower with a Baroque dome from the second half of the 18th century. On the north side, a cross-vaulted sacristy was attached.” The church later served as the castle chapel of the Counts of Ingelheim and then as a parish church. Around this time, the new cemetery was established around the church. The simple Baroque altar from the 17th century was donated by Franz Adolf Diether, Baron of Ingelheim.
It is noteworthy that Schöneberg was not always Catholic. In 1568, Hans Valentin von Schonenberg called an evangelical pastor, Balthasar Ringhausen, to Schöneberg. Until 1622, Schöneberg seems to have been an evangelical parish. It was built from 1891 to 1893 under Pastor Heinrich Schmitz. Due to the limited capacity of the Schöneberg parish, the vast majority of the construction costs were covered by generous donations from outside.
A new building was urgently needed, as the old church was in dire need of repair and could not accommodate all the believers. They are indeed in the process of demolishing [the old church]. The first foundation stone for the current parish church was laid in October 1891, and on April 24 (Easter Monday) 1892, the cornerstone was laid with great participation.
Inside the church, there is a copy of the Stalingrad Madonna.
The church in Schöneberg is one of the very few churches in the church district that is still used as a simultaneous church today.
