For over 100 years inhalation therapy has been prescribed by spa doctors in the radon tunnel of Bad Kreuznach. The inhalation sessions take place with up to 12 one-hour units in the barrier-free developed mine in pleasant room air. In a decommissioned mercury tunnel, Bad Kreuznach has created the world's first tunnel used for radon therapy. The air in the radon tunnel contains the radioactive gas radon in a low, absolutely harmless concentration. It is generated from the metal radium, which is contained in the porphyry rock of the mountain massif. In 1904, the Bad Kreuznach pharmacist Dr. Karl Aschoff discovered the radioactive radiation in radon. Inhalation therapy has been applied since 1912. The prescription is crucial in individual cases with a positive medical prognosis for success.

The approval of the therapy says nothing about its effectiveness in general.
