Rapunzel Tower on the Lemberg

On the Lemberg, there are still countless relics from early times when mining was still carried out here. The 'Rapunzel Tower' is one of these relics. It was built in the 1920s to supply the Beutelfels quarry with electricity from the valley. It was connected to another building. From here, the heavy carts filled with basalt were transported via a roller track on rails to the loading station about 500 meters away and from there transported by cable car to the Lemberghaus near Oberhausen on the Nahe. The 'Machine Tower' was not in operation for long. In the 1930s, the Beutelfels quarry was already closed again. A second cable car was built from the Silver Lake to the strategic railway and the loading station between Ober- and Niederhausen. The buildings at the Beutelfels quarry were left to nature and were only 'rediscovered' in 2015 during the planning of the Vitaltour Mysterious Lemberg. The ivy-covered – but otherwise completely intact tower – reminded one of the dungeon from the well-known fairy tale. The name was born.

The local community of Feilbingert renovated the tower a few years later with the help of grants from the LEADER program and converted it into an observation tower. Today, a spiral staircase leads up and offers hikers a great view of Duchroth, the Gangelsberg, Oberhausen on the Nahe, all the way to the Heimbergturm. The dilapidated outbuilding now serves as an unusual picnic spot.
