Apparently, the Romans already appreciated this Hunsrück landscape, as they settled there and thus established the nearly 1,000-year history of 'longus campus' (Latin for Long Field). Longkamp was first mentioned in a document in 1030. Countess Jutta of Lorraine donated her estates in Bernkastel-Kues, Longkamp, and Monzelfeld to the then monastery of St. Eucharius near Trier with this document.
