The "Thick Tower" is part of the ring wall of the old city fortifications. It was built as a fully rounded tower made of rubble stone masonry with short offsets.
From 1986 to 1988, the tower was rebuilt to its full height based on a city view from 1860. The tower and the mortuary gate are the oldest structures in Baumholder.
The Thick Tower is also used as a wedding room from May to October.
