Rosenburg Ruins

There are no written records about the origins of the castle commonly referred to as the 'Rosenburg'. The first reliable mention of the castle occurred in 1332, when the village of Arinswancke was pledged for 2000 pounds of Heller to the namesake ministerial, a knight Simon von Arinswancke, by a collateral line of Sponheim-Koppenstein. Presumably, the castle was built in the 13th century when the Sponheim counts sought to consolidate and secure their possessions. Even in 1786, the castle was described in a contemporary account as 'very impressive and durable'. It was destroyed in 1793. Apart from remnants of the walls, only the gatehouse from the 17th century has been preserved.
