The castle of the Lords of Daun-Oberstein, prominently situated on a rocky spur above the Nahe River, offers an impressive backdrop along with Castle Bosselstein and the world-famous Felsenkirche above the old town of the district of Oberstein.
Visit: From the courtyard with a covered terrace, you can gaze far over Castle Bosselstein, Oberstein, and the Nahe Valley towards the extensive forests of Winterhauch. The restored rooms of the castle and the courtyard can be visited from early April to early November.
History: Castle Oberstein was first mentioned in 1330, experienced a heyday in the 15th century, burned down completely in 1855, and was partially rebuilt after 1980 by the Burgenverein Schloss Oberstein. Castle Bosselstein, built around 1150, was inhabited by the Lords of Stein until 1600. It fell into disrepair over time, so today only a tower stump and a few walls remain. From Castle Bosselstein, there is a magnificent view of the district of Oberstein. It is a four-minute walk from Castle Oberstein, which is worth it!
Opening hours: April 1 - October 31: Tuesday - Sunday from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, open on Mondays in July and August (visits are not possible during castle rentals).
Rental: The entire castle as well as individual rooms: the Coat of Arms Hall, Bay Window Room, Cultural Room (also used as a registry office), and Lion Cellar can be rented for family and corporate celebrations as well as other events. Guided tours for groups, school classes, and kindergartens can be arranged year-round by appointment.
