Anyone who comes to Stromberg will recognize it immediately: Its tower rises unmistakably above the town. Here, Michael von Obentraut, also known as "Deutscher Michel," spent his youth. As the successor to the old Stromburg on the Pfarrköpfchen, it was built at the beginning of the 13th century and is first documented in 1242. After its destruction by French troops in 1689, it was rebuilt 300 years later.
In the early 1980s, the ruins were extensively renovated and operated as the gourmet restaurant "Le Val d'Or" with hotel by the famous star chef Johann Lafer for 25 years.
For day visitors:
The open castle courtyard with a breathtaking view of the half-timbered town of Stromberg can be visited. On the "Knight's Tour to Stromberg," which starts directly at the castle, all three castles of the town can be explored.
Note: The restaurant is no longer open, and the castle is currently not being managed.
