Viewing Tower Horet

Welcome to the Horet Observation Tower!

The Horet Observation Tower is an architectural gem, captivating visitors with its 17 meters height and 44 steps leading to the observation platform. It majestically stands at 331 meters above sea level in Rümmelsheim, close to the border with Waldalgesheim. This listed tower was built between 1909 and 1910 and impresses with a footprint of 4.5 by 4.5 meters.

In the basement, there is a historic deep reservoir that once served for water supply and has a capacity of 250 cubic meters of water. Until 1978, it was operated by the Trollmühle water association in Windesheim to supply the surrounding communities with water. Today, a newly constructed elevated tank from 1976 with a volume of 200,000 cubic meters takes on this important task.

After a period of closure due to vandalism, the tower now shines again in new splendor! In close collaboration with the neighboring community of Waldalgesheim and the water association, the observation tower has been reopened as a new tourist “jewel.” In September 2024, it was made accessible to the public during the celebrations of the “Me(e)hrSehenTour” in Rümmelsheim. From here, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the former Amalienhöhe mine in Waldalgesheim, whose distinctive tower once represented an important sightline.

Starting from April 12, 2025, the Horet Observation Tower will welcome visitors every Saturday and Sunday from 10 AM to 5 PM – admission is free!
